Bio
Is Cooper Thomson a solo troubadour or a rock 'n' roll band? Is he too loud to be country? Is he too folk to be punk? Too aggressive to be a balladeer? Too soft to be dangerous? Too polished to be indie? Too skewed to be pop?
And what of the lyrics? Are they too poetic to be mainstream? Too colloquial to be poetry? Too abstruse? Too straightforward? Too cryptic? Not cryptic enough? What’s he saying? Is he saying what I think he’s saying? Is Cooper Thomson too hip? Not hip enough? Part of the scene, or a scene unto himself?
Just what does he think he’s doing anyway?
From Montreal to Los Angeles, these are the questions that follow and surround the artist, the band, the musician named Cooper Thomson to this very day.
After crafting and recording a full-length independent CD (Lamplight On Hutchison) and a follow-up EP (The New Affair), Cooper Thomson set out from his hometown of Montreal and followed his nose to the great Southwest with his guitar, a few harmonicas and a used ‘95 Ford Escort. Making musical stops through Chicago, Nashville, Dallas, Austin, Phoenix, and a few other places along the way, he settled in the deep end of the pool, down in Los Angeles.
Upon his arrival, he hit the ground running. From the local coffee shop down the road to the clubs down in Hollywood, he was there. From Genghis Cohen, to The Hotel Café, to Room 5 Lounge, to the Viper Room... If there was a stage - or even if there wasn’t - he played it.
Now, after many miles, many shows, many new fans, and a bunch of new stories to tell, Cooper Thomson is hard at work recording the songs that carried him across two countries, and penning new ones to carry him even farther.
A new LP is in the works and will be available soon.
